MENA region on track for 75 GW of solar by 2030

Dii Desert Energy, an energy transition think tank, has reported the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region will have a cumulative solar capacity of 75 GW at the end of the decade if the current project pipeline is fully realized. It adds an additional 40 GW of solar projects need to be planned and executed in the next five years to match the region’s pledged 2030 targets. 

Chinese PV Industry Brief: UtmoLight starts perosvkite module production

UtmoLight says it has launched the world’s first gigawatt-scale perovskite solar module production line at a facility in Wuxi, China. The plant will annually produce 1.8 million panels, with a target of achieving 20% efficiency in mass production by 2025.

High pressure systems bring solar gains despite stormy January in Europe

In a new weekly update for pv magazine, Solcast, a DNV company, reports that January was an eventful month for European weather, with a series of named storms impacting Western Europe and Scandinavia. Solar irradiance was above average in the British Isles and around the Black Sea, where periods of high pressure allowed for clearer skies.

Research shows floating PV can reduce lake water temperature by 1.2 C

A before-after-control-impact study conducted at six French lakes for three years has revealed that PV coverage decreases water temperature by 1.2 C on average. The reduction in water temperature also occurred in areas of the lakes that were not covered with modules.

Somalia opens solar-plus-storage tender
