Research project examines PV-supported charging infrastructure for electric buses

The Kiel University of Applied Sciences analyzed the electrification of a bus fleet operated by the local public transport company in Pinneberg as part of the EMOSYN project. The results are viewed as a “blueprint for small and medium-sized public transport companies.”

Electric cars and heat pumps can help avoid 110 hours of negative electricity prices annually

An Enervis study commissioned by Green Planet Energy sees great potential for reducing CO2 emissions and avoiding peak feed-in times in intelligent control, particularly in adapting to available PV power. Not only users of electric cars and heat pumps could benefit from this, but also all other electricity customers – thanks to lower electricity prices.

Global PV dataset shows 2019-2022 data

Using Google Earth imagery and 2019-2022 Sentinel-2 datasets, Chinese scientists have developed a two-stage classification framework to obtain the annual global dataset of solar photovoltaic panels at 20-meter resolution from 2019 to 2022.

Qcells tandem solar module passes critical stress tests

Qcells says its perovskite/silicon tandem solar modules have passed several independently verified stress tests. The South Korean module maker claims the results meet benchmarks for commercial acceptance of its tandem tech.

Dr. Metje Consulting launches mini backyard solar systems

DIYers can assemble the frame and modules themselves, according to the supplier. A 5.34 kW system with glass-on-glass modules from Trina Solar is available in Germany starting at €5,999.

The Hydrogen Stream: Axpo reports progress on automated H2 project

Axpo has started remotely controlling a 2.5 MW hydrogen production facility (HPF) in Switzerland, while Statkraft says it will halt new green hydrogen projects amid market uncertainty.

Tandem cell or tandem module?

At Intersolar Europe in Munich, several companies presented their concepts for high-performance perovskite tandem photovoltaics. The first modules are expected to be available in the second half of the year. The different approaches by manufacturers are evident.

Net electricity prices for end customers fall below zero for first time in Germany

As PV and wind power plants caused a significant oversupply on May 11, the electricity price fell to a low of minus €250 per megawatt-hour. Charging PV storage systems or electric cars during these hours thus generated income for customers with dynamic electricity tariffs between 12 pm and 3 pm.

RWE installing 86.5 MW of PV systems along motorway in western Germany

The PV power plants are expected to be connected to the grid by the end of the year. RWE is already testing agrivoltaic systems in the immediate vicinity and has installed hybrid power plants with storage.

Battery and battery tech developments in brief from the floor of Intersolar 2025

Europe’s largest solar power event filled 18 very large halls in Munich, and new launches ranged from balcony solar to cow poop innovations.
