The Hydrogen Stream: LCOH of subsidized green hydrogen under $2/kg

Lazard explains in a new report that the levelized cost of hydrogen (LCOH) is normally lower for green hydrogen than for pink hydrogen, using both PEM and alkaline electrolyzers, with or without subsidies. Meanwhile, Australian authorities are trying to increase the competitiveness of the local hydrogen sector, while car companies are updating their fuel cell plans.

Saltwater flow battery produces graphene while charging

Salgenx has developed a way to produce graphene on demand from its saltwater flow battery. The tech exploits the electrochemical properties of the battery’s cathode to exfoliate graphite into individual layers of graphene. The company says it can produce graphene for less than $1.25 per gram, providing storage businesses with an additional revenue stream.

Only5mins! – Lower electrolyzer costs crucial for green hydrogen deployment

Low electrolyzer costs, low capex, a low levelized cost of energy, and a decent capacity factor are key to developing viable green hydrogen projects. George Touloupas, senior director of technology for Clean Energy Associates, tells pv magazine about the main challenges and the current price trajectory for green hydrogen tech.

Australian company to explore hydrogen storage in salt caverns

EntX has secured a license to explore salt deposits along the western side of the Eyre Peninsula in South Australia for the purpose of hydrogen storage.

Australian developer starts working on 240 MW/480 MWh battery

Renewables developer GMR Energy has started working on a 240 MW/480 MWh battery project in Victoria, Australia.

Storing renewables with aquifer thermal energy storage

US scientists have looked at how aquifer thermal energy storage (ATES) could be used to store wind and solar power, while catering to heating and cooling energy demand during extreme hot or cold periods. They modeled a distributed energy system for a neighborhood in Chicago and found that ATES could reduce consumption of petroleum products by up to 40% at a slightly higher cost than other forms of storage.
