Lennox launches residential heat pump with space-saving design

The US-based company said its new EL18KSLV Side Discharge Heat Pump uses R-454B as the refrigerant and has a size ranging from 2 tons to 5 tons.

China hits 1 TW solar milestone

China’s solar power capacity has surpassed 1 TW, marking a historic milestone as the country accelerates its energy transition. Around 92 GW of new PV systems were installed in China in May alone, but analysts warn the pace may slow in the second half of the year.

‘Yes in my backyard’: research rejects ‘NIMBY’ hypothesis for solar opposition

A US national survey published in Frontiers in Sustainable Energy Policy shows that most people living near large-scale solar projects feel positively or neutrally about them, and only 18% would oppose additional development.

New model for predicting residential PV fleet yield

To predict the energy yield of residential solar PV fleets based on limited information, Dutch researchers developed a probability-based mathematical model that provides rapid sky view factor (SVF) calculations, protects PV plant owner privacy, and was shown to be effective for studying PV potential in urban areas.

Rooftop PV has potential to meet 185% of electricity demand in Northern Ireland

University of Ulster analysis finds installing solar on half of Northern Ireland’s rooftops would generate 13.5 TWh per year, however significant gaps between PV generation and demand remain. Government commissioned report recommends introducing new incentives to support rooftop solar.

Persistent wildfires in Canada create cross-continental solar drag

In a new weekly update for pv magazine, Solcast, a DNV company, reports that smoke from ongoing Canadian wildfires has continued to suppress irradiance levels across Canada and the Eastern US into June, with impacts stretching as far as Europe.

Daikin launches new single-zone heat pumps for residential use

The new Oterra 115V heat pumps use difluoromethane (R32) as the refrigerant and have a heating capacity of 9,000 BTU/h to 12,000 BTU/h.

India’s solar potential estimated at 10.8 TW

A new study by the Energy and Resources Institute (TERI) has estimated India’s total solar potential at 10,830 GW, significantly higher than the previous 2014 assessment of 748 GW by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE). The study revisits conventional solar deployment areas such as barren and unculturable lands and explores additional avenues to expand the country’s solar potential.

Hungary’s solar capacity nears 8 GW

Data from transmission system operator MAVIR shows that solar energy production in Hungary reached a new peak on June 13, producing enough energy to serve the country’s domestic electricity requirements entirely from renewables.

New SWIR line-scan camera for silicon PV quality control

France’s New Imaging Technologies has launched a short-wave infrared line-by-line scanning camera for high-definition and high-performance silicon PV inspection systems.
