US solar generation up 27% in 2024, accounting for 6.8% of all electricity

The US Energy Information Administration (EIA) says that utility-scale solar grew by 32%, while distributed solar increased by 15%, bringing their respective shares to nearly 5% and 2% of total electricity generation. Overall, US electricity generation rose by 3.1% year over year.

Chinese scientists build 20.3%-efficient mini inverted perovskite solar modules via slot die coating

A team led by University of Electronic Science and Technology of China (UESTC) has found that pyrrodiazole as an additive in formamidinium iodide (FAI)-based inverted perovskite solar enables larger area devices made with industry-compatible slot die coating. Modules made using the technology achieved 20.3% certified power conversion efficiency and retained 94% of initial efficiency after 1,000 h in standard testing.

World’s first battery storage system to provide full active and reactive power services comes online

Blackhillock in Scotland is not only Europe’s biggest operating battery storage project. It is also the first one to provide a special set of grid stabilization services, procured under the electricity system operator’s Pathfinder 2, while also generating revenues from other critical services.
