Premier Power to install 16.2 MW of PV in Bulgaria

Premier Power has said it will build four photovoltaic power plants in Bulgaria, totaling 16.2 megawatts (MW).

The company says that the plants will be located in Dimitrovgrad and, when complete, are expected to represent an over 75 percent increase in the country’s installed photovoltaic capacity since the beginning of 2011.

The project is the result of a joint venture between Premier Power and Plaan Czech, s.r.o. It will reportedly be funded by an unnamed, private investment company based in the Czech Republic.

When asked how much will be invested, a spokesperson for Premier Power told pv magazine that "for an install like this" the cost of construction would range from between €30 million to €40 million for the four plants.

The spokesperson added that two of the systems will be three MW in size and two will be five MW. The company would not divulge who is supplying the equipment. However, the modules to be used will be crystalline. Construction is scheduled to start this month, with operations beginning by the end of the year.

Bjorn Persson, executive vice president of European operations at Premier Power commented, "We look forward to building our presence in Bulgaria as the country aggressively targets its goal of reaching 16 percent renewable power by the year 2020."

While Premier Power says it has further Eastern European photovoltaic plans, the spokesperson would not release any specific information.
