Construction began last month on a 3.8 MW solar array for the town of Bellingham, Massachusetts, in the U.S.

Massachusetts governor Deval Patrick inspects a solar rooftop in the U.S. state.

Washington Gas Energy Systems will operate an array that boosts Massachusetts' solar capacity by another 3.8 MW.

The Bellingham project, which is expected to be completed by late June, was developed by NextSun Energy with Gehrlicher Solar performing engineering and construction.

Washington Gas Energy Systems will own and operate the project, which will sell photovoltaic electricity under a 20-year PPA.

The project will comprise 12,672 solar panels and is expected to save schools in the town some $6 million dollars in energy costs over the plant’s 20 year lifetime.
