Martifer Solar completes 2.88 MW PV rooftop in Prague
04. February 2011 | Applications & Installations, Industry & Suppliers | By: Becky StuartMartifer Solar has installed a 2.88 megawatt (MW) photovoltaics (PV) rooftop system in Prague, the Czech Republic.
Spread across six buildings, and 67,816 square meters, the system is located in an industrial park in the city. It is expected to supply over 1,400 homes with energy, and avoid the emission of more than 5,300 tons of carbon dioxide per year. It is operated by an unnamed third-party.
According to the company, following the need to use a perforating system, a special support structure for the modules was created. This was reportedly adjusted to the structure of the building, in order to guarantee its stability and waterproofness.
"These 2.88 MW were of great complexity, owing mostly to the need of assuring the stability of the buildings and observing the safety of the construction, because this installation was laid down in the frame of the buildings. We are very pleased to see a project of this difficulty successfully completed," stated Ricardo Meireles, Martifer Solar general manager for Northern & Central Europe.
